stockholm weekend pics, coffee and swimming

this last weekend of august was a good one.  good friends, good weather, good city swimming.

stefan loves a good cup of coffee, especially from johan & nyström one of our many neighbourhood coffee shops.  they put on a coffee festival this weekend at the sodra theater in mosebacke.  stefan is a coffee snob to nth degree so of course we went.

he sampled coffee from around the world, was inspired by the coffee roasting in a pan, and attended a pour over lecture so he could perfect his home brewing.  i enjoyed a virgin coffee cocktail made with oats milk and vanilla syrup, sitting in the sun, and the company of ximena whose husband is as much a coffee snob as stefan.  we had hoped for a coffee ice cream station but no luck...  this was a festival for pure coffee enthusiasts.

later that night while ximena, our kiddos and i stayed home, the husbands went back to watch a film about coffee and enjoy coffee cocktails while listening to djs spin some music.

taking advantage of the sunshine - i do hope it sticks around for a while longer - we cycled to vinterviken park to lunch at the cafe and swim in the lake.  we didn't count on a summer shower but that was ok, we played some scopa to wait it out then jumped in the water.  i may have yelped a little when i entered, so cold!  but it warms up quickly then it's lovely.

it's one of the things i have come to love about stockholm...  so much choice of swimming spots right in the city.  made up of 14 islands, it really is the perfect swimming place. i can get used to this :)

vinterviken posts, if you'd like to take a peek... in the winterin the spring, and in the sunshine.

we came upon a farmer's market... and stopped to get a few veggies for dinner.

stockholm weekend pics, a bike ride in rosendals tradgard and a food truck market on skeppsholmen

this past weekend unwound itself slowly which was lovely.  maybe because we were taking it easy, not rushing, not needing to be anywhere in particular.  lazy mornings before heading out the door to enjoy the sun and returning home in the evening to prepare and eat light vegetarian meals while watching agent carter (yes, we sometimes indulge in dinner in front of the tv).  and there was stikkinikki ice cream too.

saturday

a bike ride around djurgarden island with a break for lunch at rosendals tradgardcafe, sitting under the apple trees napping (stefan) and playing cards (kai and i) then ending the day with a swim.  it's one of my favourite places and they serve the best mjuk kaka med kardemumma (cardamon cake!).  it was too long since we were last there, when snow covered the ground and we were eating lunch outside wrapped up in blankets (see this post).

sunday

the next day we checked out the food truck happenings on skeppsholmen - we ate well, a pork roast sandwich for him and a falafel wrap for me - with some lounging on the grass by the water reading magazines and enjoying the sunshine (kai missed this outing since he had a sleep over at a friend's home the night before).  if you live in stockholm do check out matholmen, it ends september 27, and the island itself is wonderful to explore, see this post.

i hope you had a relaxing, sunshine kind of weekend too.

for the next couple of weeks, while the three of us fumble a bit getting into a nice rhythm of routine again, i will only publish weekend pics and 52 weeks blog posts.  and, i will try (fingers crossed) to get my travelogue posts for gotland and london ready sooner than later.
