weekend pics

alot of laundry and ironing was done this weekend!  sorry, this is not very exciting news to share but what a relief to finally get it all done.  you see, our dryer is not working well so clothing are dried the old fashioned way - on a clothes line.  this entails lots of ironing.  thankfully, a new washer and dryer will be delivered in a couple of weeks.

for more exciting news, stefan made a couple of beautiful soups this weekend.  at the farmers market, the last one of the season, we came across some lovely mini peppers which ended up in a soup along with some bison sausage.  it was perfection.  he also made a leek and potato soup (the one from here), that we shared with our friends darrin and alexia.  their little girl, kara, cute as ever, loved the hamster, the drums, and kai (she had an endless supply of hugs for him)!  stefan and alexia share a love of chocolate so of course thomas haas was in the house too!

we also had jacob hanging out with us on saturday, our friend's son.  his playdate was with kai but he and stefan enjoyed chatting about supernovas and such too - he is a brillant (and sweet) boy.  jacob and kai were in utero at the same time and have been friends since. as with most of our friends we wish we could hang out more often with jacob and family.

we were too late, the rosemary cookies sold out!

among all the laundry and ironing i did fit in a morning run but i kept getting distracted by all the lovely spring blooms.  the cherry blossoms and tulips are a couple of my favourite flowers.

btw, the avocado and egg breakfast pizza was as yummy as i thought it would be!

you look great

i am having a bit of a fashion conundrum.  figuring out what to wear has become a chore most mornings.  i look at my small selection of tops and bottoms and don’t have a clue what to wear.  you would think having less choice (one girlfriend was flabbergasted at the little clothing i own) would be easier, but no.  even if i put together something that looked fabulous last week, it doesn’t look so fabulous this week.

i was told that colour coding your wardrobe makes it easier to get ready in the morning or for a night out as it helps to mix and match your clothes successfully without too much uncertainty.  my clothing have been sorted by colour for years and really, it doesn’t make it easier for me.  however, it does help me identify deficits in my clothing options, i.e. going overboard in one particular colour, and it brings me joy to see an organized closet (i even colour coded stefan’s clothing!).

one trick that works brilliantly, sometimes, is to start with the shoes.  i read this in a vogue article some time ago.  if you find yourself in a fashion conundrum too, try it.  or maybe all i need is this mirror.  i think it would look great hanging in my house.

i could wake up to this everyday!

bling is not something i would normally gravitate to but i do love this tapestry made of wood and mirror from anthropology.  what do you think?

weekend pics

feeling bluh.  been fighting a sore throat and cold all week and on sunday it won.  before it hit me too badly, i managed to go for a run while kai was at his soccer program (a new soccer season, but shorter and less commitment required).  once home, i had all sorts of hours planned to do chores around the house, go here with my boys and here with a girlfriend but, my friends, that simply didn't happen.

i didn't feel like doing much of anything and feeling achy all over didn't help so after a cup of tea or two (i couldn't even muster energy to read the new livingetc. magazine) i spent most of the afternoon and evening asleep on the sofa.

kai has been very sweet.  he made me some buttered toast, kept my water glass full, and when he heard me complain about feeling feverish and chilled he brought over another blanket to lay over me.  he even gave me an impromptu massage.  super sweet.

the weekend wasn't totally lost though. on saturday, other than a cough i felt relatively okay but i was at a work conference most of the day.  i left early to hang out with kai as stefan also had to work that afternoon/evening.  kai and i had a lunch date here and walked a long and leisurely walk home.  so at least i spent some time outdoors!

fun with a blue feather

when allowed into the 'cat' cabinet, jude will always walk away with this blue feather; his favourite toy (bought here).  we will play until he is huffing and puffing with exhaustion.  he highly recommends it for your cat friends.

have a lovely weekend.
